MCA Founder Recognized at Successful Haystack Workshop

On a (mostly) bright and sunshiny May weekend 42 craft artists settled into Haystack Mountain School of Craft for the 25th annual Maine Crafts Association Haystack Weekend Workshop. Artist instructors from all over the United States worked with eager and talented Maine Craft artists throughout the weekend and created some very beautiful and fun work wood, clay, metal, enameling, fiber and tin can art. A great time was had by all, especially at the silent auction, which helped raise over $2000 for the education programs of the Maine Crafts Association.

In addition, Carolyn Hecker, the founder of the Maine Crafts Association 25 years ago, was recognized that weekend for her tireless contribution to Maine Craft Artists at a special dinner in her honor sponsored by the Maine Crafts Association. Seventy special guests partook of a sumptuous meal and cake made by Haystack’s chef and kitchen crew. Stu Kenstenbaum, executive director of Haystack gave a nice speech recognizing Carolyn Hecker’s work. She was presented with a handmade memory book created by Ann-Claude Cotty and signed by longtime members, board members and friends of the Maine Crafts Association. In addition, donors contributed funds to create a “Carolyn Hecker Scholarship” to be given to a worthy Maine Crafts Association member to attend a Haystack program for the first time.
