    Tracy S. Michaud Stutzman, Ph.D. is a native of rural Maine.  In 2002 she earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology from the University of Pittsburgh.  She returned to Maine and created numerous community development programs.   She also co-authored a live music and slide show curriculum that teaches local history to students, and an award-winning middle school curriculum, “Teaching Sense of Place Through the Arts”.   With the support of local economic development corporations, Tracy founded and became the Executive Director of The Maine Highlands Guild, a non-profit organization that helps rural artisans build their businesses and access new markets while at the same time preserving cultural traditions and providing arts education to the community.  The Guild received State and National recognition as the winner of the 2003 National Social Venture Competition sponsored by Columbia University, Hass Business School at Berkeley, and the Goldman Sachs Foundation.   Tracy sits on Maine’s Governor’s Council for the Creative Economy and the Governors Council on Quality of Place. She is a leader in the Realize!Maine Youth Initiative.  In 2005 she was chosen for Maine Biz magazine’s “NEXT” list and recently won the Governors Award for CDBG Administrator of the Year. Tracy is an adjunct professor of Anthropology at USM and represents Maine on the Northern Forest Sustainable Economy Initiative, and as the STAR for the National Center for Civic Education.  She is involved in her community on the board of directors of the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft,  and as a member of The Cultural Heritage and Eco-Tourism Committee of the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council.

    Lisa Adkins has managed the office and assisted the Executive Director of The Maine Highlands Artisan Guild for the past 5 years. She is excited to continue her work with craft artists at the Maine Crafts Association. Lisa has lived in the state of Maine her entire life and as an arts advocate loves to interact with members on a daily basis.  Lisa has experience in the graphic arts field and is a past graduate of the Penquis Leadership Institute. She now sits on its steering committee.

    Lynn Thompson served 13 years as Executive Director of Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, Maine. As Director, Thompson raised $1.5 million for the Center’s capital campaign to improve facilities, worked to expand Watershed’s international residency program, and founded Watershed's statewide Mudmobile Community Clay Education program that annually serves over 5,000 children and adults in Maine. For her work at Watershed, in 2007 Thompson received the Maine College of Arts “Achievement in Community Education Award”. Thompson served six years on the Maine Arts Commission as Chair of the Arts Development Committee, five years on the Maine/Aomori Japan Sister State Advisory Council, as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Maine Craft Association for six years, and is a member of Maine’s Alliance for Arts Education and the American Crafts Council. Formerly, she taught art history and served as the Liberal Studies Chair at the Memphis College of Art in Memphis TN.

    Chris Krauss has most recently been employed by The Wilderness Society as coordinator of the award-winning Maine WoodNet, a marketing and flexible manufacturing network of wood professionals in western Maine.  Under her guidance Maine WoodNet designed and built a FSC Certified Conference Table for the Cabinet Room in the Maine Statehouse; became the first group in the US to obtain a group chain of custody certificate; and opened member owned SugarWood Gallery in Farmington and Center Street Artisans in Rutland, Vermont linking Maine with the multi-state Northern Forest area.

The new Maine Crafts Association promotes education, understanding, and appreciation of the work of Maine craft artists and their importance in Maine's rich and varied economies and distinctive communities. MCA increases communication between artisans and sponsors programs that will assist them.
