Art Glass Exhibition at Bowdoin College: "8 States of Trans"

Glass Exhibition by Nel Bernard and Bonnie Faulkner.
Opening Reception: Friday November 7th 2008 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
LaMarche Gallery, Smith Union
Bowdoin College

Local artisans, Nel Bernard (owner of Maine Art Glass Studio) and artist Bonnie Faulkner bring their over 40 years of combined glass talents and enthusiasm together for the first time.  The pieces in the show revolve around 8 words that begin with ‘trans’.  Each artist interprets those 8 works in unique and individual ways as well as combining creative efforts to achieve a transforming affect.  Glass fusing, copper-foiling, sandblasting and painting are just a few of the techniques that will be evident in the works on display.

The show remains on display for the month of November. Contact Person: Bonnie Pardue, Bowdoin College, 725-3902 or bpardu@bowdoin.edu

Filament Gallery invites the public to an opening reception for our 9th Annual Holiday Show. This fun and festive year-end show features the work of over 20 artists, including: Jack Allen, Ian Anderson, Kim Brennan, Crystal Cawley, Jim Crampton, Jill Dalton, Kyle Durrie, Tanya Fletcher, John Goodwin, Susan Hellier, Joanna House, Erin Hutton, Matt Hutton, Lenny Kamuza, Clint Kaye, Alva Lowe, Morgan Maurer, Audrey Meyer, Don Ogier, Ernest Paterno, Patti Sandberg, Nina Scott-Hansen, Juliana Swaney, Michelle Weinstein, Erica VonSchilgen, Susan Winn, and David Wolfe.

Exhibiting artists create a wide variety of inspired and unusual items.  This year’s Holiday Show will include engaging objects such as wine balancers, yoga bunnies, assemblage sculptures, wooden boxes, jewelry, collages, wire sculptures, handmade books, coatracks, ceramic cups, collages, ornaments, paintings, end tables, magic metal lamps, drawings, wood carvings, blown glass, ceramic animals, monster hooks, angels, prints, handmade holiday cards and more.

This will be the final exhibit for Filament Gallery.  Due to the current challenges in the economic climate, they have decided to close their doors and refocus their energies. They would like to deeply thank all everyone who supported their efforts through buying art, looking at work, showing work, recommending us to friends, bringing kids, sharing ideas, excitement, critiques, and stories over eight amazing years in business. While they are saddened to leave their location on Munjoy Hill, they plan to reemerge in the future in a new and different way. Plans include moving the studio and hotshop to a more visible and public location in Portland. The new space will include a viewing area for glassblowing demonstrations by Ernie and his team.
